Child protection policy

Children’s safety is not a section of our website: it is a requirement that shapes our entire platform. Here, in black and white, are the rules we apply and that you can verify.

Version [1.0] · Last updated: [date]

1. Tutor vetting

  • Mandatory criminal record extract (bulletin n°3 or Ivorian equivalent) before any profile activation. It is the most decisive check: without this document, no tutor has access to a child.
  • Periodic renewal of this document, on a date recorded in the system. A profile whose document has expired is automatically suspended.
  • Degree verification, individual interview and teaching trial.
  • Mandatory child protection training and signature of the ethics charter.

2. No off-platform communication

  • No personal phone number or social media contact is shown on a tutor profile.
  • Parent-tutor and student-tutor messages go exclusively through the platform’s messaging, which is kept and reviewable.
  • Automatic filtering: attempts to exchange personal contact details (numbers, WhatsApp, Instagram, Snapchat handles…) are blocked and reported to the team.
  • WhatsApp is used only by Bloom Africa for reminders and support, never for learning exchanges about a child.

3. In-person sessions, scheduled and logged

  • All lessons take place in person, at the family’s home or in a place approved by the parent. Bloom Africa does not offer online lessons.
  • A family adult is present at home throughout the session, and the parent may attend at any time.
  • No untraced child-adult session: even one-to-one, every session is scheduled and logged (date, time, duration, place, participants), with the tutor’s arrival and departure confirmed.

4. Explicit parental consent

  • Only the parent or legal guardian creates the account and approves the child’s profile. The child never has an independent sign-up channel.
  • Documented consent is collected before any data about a minor is collected.
  • A separate box for each use: first name in a testimonial, photo in a portfolio, publication on Bloom Africa’s social media. Never a blanket consent.
  • Each consent can be withdrawn at any time from the parent space.

5. Data protection

Children’s data and learning assessments are doubly sensitive. The collection and retention system will be submitted to the Autorité de Régulation des Télécommunications/TIC de Côte d’Ivoire (ARTCI) before going live. Roles (parent, student, tutor, administrator) are separated at database level, not just in the display.

6. A permanent reporting channel

A “Report a problem” button is available from every page of the site, every profile and from the parent space. Every report is handled as a priority by the child protection team.

If a child is in immediate danger, contact emergency services and the relevant authorities first.
